ZIRO Carbon Fiber PLA Filament 1.75mm, Space Gray

The carbon fiber helps a lot with hiding layer lines and the grey looks pretty good. Parts feel durable and a little more coarse than normal PLA

I've been getting brave lately, testing out more exotic filaments. This is PLA at it's base, but since it also contains carbon fiber, it requires different settings, as well as an upgraded nozzle. I have a ruby tipped nozzle now, so I decided to try out this filament finally.

My slicer has PLA-CF as a preset, so the slicing part was easy. It set the temperature at 220/65 for nozzle/bed. My test print was shelf supports for a Gridfinity base, for the very printer I printed it on. I used 100% infill, and obviously this carbon fiber PLA. It printed beautifully and is SUPER strong. I feel like this type of filament is a sweet spot for strong prints that don't require the most exotic filaments as well as an enclosure.

This Carbon Fiber PLA filament prints like PLA right out of the box. I did not have to change any settings on my Ender3 clone to make this work better (even though I may print some control towers and hone in the settings at a later time).

My first print came out clean and flawless. It stuck to the bed perfectly (something that I keep having problems with when printing PETG), and the result even looks a bit better than standard PLA prints.

One word of caution: The carbon fibers in the filament will damage regular (cheap) nozzles over time. if you regularly print with this filament, it is probably wise to order some hardened steel nozzles - they are only a few dollars here on Amazon, and they will last longer than the copper or brass ones when using this product.

So far, I am impressed with my first experience with Carbon Fiber PLA. I like this product!

Seems like it would be able to take more stress but I didn't really put it to the test. I'll update my review if I print something and it breaks (or doesn't break even though it should).

Carbon fiber PLA is one of those blends that i'm a really big fan of due to some properties prints will have.

With ZIRO, the chopped carbon fiber makes it extremely rigid and stiff while also keeping prints lightweight. Prints do tend to be more brittle than your typical PLA, so I would recommend printing with more walls if you are printing functional parts.

It also has a naturally matte look to it, so it helps hide layer lines and leaves a gorgeous finish on prints.
